A Guide to LANparty Mascots

A Guide to LANparty Mascots

Here at FragFest we encourage people to enhance their lanparty experience by giving their pc and desk more character by means of a 'Mascot'. A mascot is usually a small, extremely cute, stuffed animal. Usually such a creature is won at a place like lunar park, time zone or bought from a novelty store. Generally one mascot is appopriate for each person and it is very appropriate to name your computer after you mascot, thus conforming more to RFC 1178. After all RFC compliance is why the internet is so successful

As an example my mascot is a small bean stuffed gecko, and my pc is always named 'gecko', you can put your name and alias in your computer description if you feel the need. Its worth mentioning that mascots are not items of apparel (or the lack thereof), modware or hardware, promotional dolls or well known characters, mousemats, bricks, peripherals or lanyards!! They are akin to fluffly and or stuffed animals!

Here are some real life examples...

Sometimes silliness ensues, which is all part of the fun!

Having selected a mascot it is now time to name it. Calling your mascot 'chicken' and naming your computer 'chicken' also will likely cause conflicts. Because we are a little wacky here at FragFest, we tend to name everything, for example our power distribution box is lovingly known as 'old betty' and our web servers have themed names and so on. So, we suggest that you name your mascot with something fitting and unique ie 'lazylizzard' or 'frankychimpanzee'.

We encourage everyone to find a unique and interesting mascot and join in the fun!
