Tutorial - Electrical Safety
Introduction
This document aims to ensure maximum performance and safety from the electrical system. We encourage all participants to familiarize themselves prior to attending an event. FragFest staff may audit electrical gear through out the event in order to ensure performance and safety.
General Safety Requirements
Frayed or damaged power leads are extremely dangerous and will not be allowed for use! Power plugs with insulated prongs are required. Please do not plug in older style powerboards, powerpacks or power leads
Additionally, please ensure that all equipment is in good condition.
Your power outlet
Desks are configured with red plastic double power points and data leads designated to each position of each desk. Participants are permitted only one red outlet and are required to plug their computer into the outlet designated to their seat. If more outlets are required, a small powerboard should be attached, and unused outlets on the board taped over. Do not plug your equipment into other peoples powerboards - it will inevitably cause problems! Your outlet is yours and yours alone, use it, love it, defend it.
It is a good idea to plug in all your electrical equipment prior to turning your power outlet on.
We provide 1.5amp's at 240VAC for each person.
Double Adapters
Double Adapters are not allowed! Any and all use of double adapters is prohibited. They are not safe.
Powerboards
If more than one power outlet is required, participants should use new 4 outlet powerboard with insulated prongs.
Powerboards can be borrowed from FragFest Staff with a nominal deposit, refunded upon return.Plug in your powerboard, then your computer gear, then turn on your power outlet.
Prohibited Equipment
As previously mentioned, double adapters aren't allowed! It is prohibited to use equipment like a coffee-machine, water boiler, microwave etc.
Just your computer, your monitor, maybe a phone charger and possibly your wireless peripherals.
