NO. As this is a BYO-Computer LANparty, you must provide your own computer. Can I play other games?

Yes, you can play whatever you want. We will even host public servers for them.

What are the LAN speeds?

All ports are 1gigabit. Our normal events feature a massive Extreme Networks BlackDiamond 6808, however we will most likely settle for a pair of smaller switches. If demand requires that we raise the limit we will certainly bring out our gigabit behemoth.

Can I trade files?

Yes, if the license for the files allows them to be redistributed and if they files contents arent illegal or pornographic. We provide a Direct Connect server to help you exchange legal files with your friends.

So you could queue up downloads of the latest release of your favourite Linux distribution or BSD flavour, then take off to check out SupaNova while it all comes down.

How will my PC be secured?

In addition to the overall security arrangements provided by Supanova, the FragFest section will be barriered off and entry will be limited to persons allowed in and out by our own staff. All attendees will be required to sign in on arrival and sign out as they depart, and will need to remove their PC at the end of the Saturday session, even if returning on the Sunday. While all precautions will be taken by FragFest and Supanova staff to ensure the security of your equipment, ultimately the responsibility falls to you as owner.

We recommend...

  • Put all your items in a zipped up bag and keep it under your desk.
  • A PC lock is strongly recommended if you have a laptop, and a great precaution if you have a desktop PC. You can buy them at just about any computer retail outlet.
  • FragFest Tournament Admins
  • Don't bring cd's/dvd's you don't need - we advise using soft images of your game cds and playing from them if this is permitted by the software license. Don't leave cd/dvd's laying around ever. Don't borrow them out of loan them. Don't leave discs in your drives whilst your PC is unattended.
  • Lock your PC before leaving the area. You may also want to remove your peripherals if you are leaving for extended periods.
  • Update your operating system, tighten up your software firewall and run an up-to-date anti-virus agent.
  • Update your operating system, tighten up your software firewall and run an up-to-date anti-virus agent.

Is there an internet connection?

Yes. However it will be extremely limited and not suitable for MMORPG's like World of Warcraft.

Is there wireless (802.11a/b/g/n)?

Strangely we have already been asked this question, obviously if you are in the LAN segment then its a complete waste of time as full speed 1000mbps ethernet is 2000% the theoretical limit of 802.11g wireless if there is only one node on the air. However this question has come from some stall and other persons who want access. Ask one of our staff and have the MAC address of your notebook or PC handy.
