Serial Bens Tourney Report
ADOLF went really well, the tournies on the other hand didn't come together too well, with Q3:A and UT not even running, but not because Slaad and I "don't care" but because all the ppl who chose to spend 10-20 minutes getting into their AQ2 games don't care! I am getting sick of people whinging about tourneys not running especially one person (you know who you are) who I never received an e-mail from registering himself for tourneys (actually virtually no-one did this) as I asked everyone to do and then whinged that Q3 and UT didn't run saying that I "don't care" about them. I spent 1 hour going round getting ppl to fill out their registration forms and ppl still had them sitting on their desks blank for ages after that. We would have fit the other games in if ppl would just put everything down and listen when BONG admin ppl yell "hey listen up". I would like to thank Panther, Dagger and Chozn1 who always stopped playing and listened.
Anyways, enough bitching, how about the actual tournies. Starcraft went reasonably well except we still need to work out a way to gauge the winners and stuff within a timelimit which had to be reduced due to ppl b*rning copies of it as it was meant to be starting. Eventually about 11/2 hours later it started and the time limit had to be slashed from 45 minutes to 30 to allow for lost time. We ran 2 games, one with 7 players and one with 8 the winner of each won a 6 month subscription to PC Powerplay Magazine. The 2 Winners were Sephiroth and JJ5, congratulations guys.
Action Quake2 took several hours due to previously mentioned problems. Next time the teams will have 5 minutes to be present within the game and then it starts regardless of who isn't there.

As you can see the winners were "Deadly", with each of them receiving a 6 month subscription to PC Powerplay magazine, congrats guys. We had gifts from our other sponsors which included, from GamesMarket.com.au, Unreal Tournament and Codename Eagle whose winners were drawn out of a hat. From Jaycar Electronics, an Aureal Interactor Vest and Cushion which were also given away as lucky door prizes. From Activision, 20 demos of Battlezone II which were randomly distributed to ppl who were showing talent in friendly games.
ADOLF could not have run nearly as well as it did without contributions from all our sponsors. Go check them out on the sponsors page aswell, just incase you or I missed them. Thank you sponsors and attendees. See you next LAN or outside your bedroom window. :P

ADOLF had at least 53 people, and my misconfigured DHCP server was the only real problem. Im confident next lan will go even smoother. As mentioned we had great numbers, hopefully this is a reflection of our reputation. Although i admit, we are the only lan out west, so we are setting the standard. The network held out well, the "q3" leg was a little slow because they refused to seit in the alocated setting. But i warned them so they only had themselves to blame. The other legs were good, pings stayed well under 50, averaging at about 30 (in q2). We didnt run a quakeworld server and no one complained so i think we can wave qw a thankful goodbye I enjoyed alot of aq2 and gloomq2, i saw _alot_ of quake3 and UT. Both of which i hope to join in on next lan. CounterStrike was also popular, as was gxmod. The calibre of play in the aq2 tournaments was the best i have ever seen. Most teams seemed to work as a team, supporting eachother etc.
Things that rocked! AQ2 Tourney Attendance Low Pings The Police Rocking Up The Principles Reserved Parking Spot Stuffed Mascots!
I had better mention the police showed up, although we didnt do anything, some guys apparently smashed up macas and they were looking around and found us! Stuffed mascots are also catching on (i hope), Including mine, i saw three!. Although mine got kidnaped and ransomed, aswell as hug typed and hung =) and as always the principles parking spot was the most popular.
Pizza hutt really pissed me off, next lan ill leave group orders to someone else. I cant complain about the product though, alot better than semi-cooked chicken or burgers. On a totally different note GamesMarket.com.au reps rolled up and presented us with two full version games and strung up their banner. Pity we didnt get any photos.
As far as staff went we did well, most people paid attention when we had an announcement to make, and most people sat in the allocated seating. Rego went smoothly, setup was all good not mentioning the DHCP server.
People used the ftp server alot, which i was pleased about. The quake servers werent even tried, mainly because most people played on q3 listen servers. The switch did well, it was flashing berzerkly every time i looked at it, but absolutely loving the attention, good work intel!
Things that sucked! Misconfiured DHCP Server Pizza Hutt Parents making trouble People leaving early People coming late Running out of TP
Alot of people left early and came late. I also made alot of TP as our numbers swelled. All in all, a great day. I enjoyed it, and we learnt alot. Next time will be even better i can feel it. Merry Christmas and a Happy Millenium.
