Another LANparty event.

DjZoRts JanLAN review

JanLAN was a great LAN. We had no power or network problems and no problems with people. Good work team. Granted... numbers were down somewhat, but we still delivered, what i felt, was a top notch LAN event.

We have established that the PA system is insufficient!

It was good to see that people got there early and we had around 60% of our total attendance through the door in the first half hour.

Tournaments
The bf2 and ut2k4 tournaments consumed the majority of my time, and indeed still haunt me in my sleep even now Smile it really is like hurding sheep, though things went smoothly and people seemed to understand the new format.

Double elimination for ut2004 with qualifiers made everyone happy. We will be running that again next time, but not first thing (as requested)

We scaled down bf2 and had 3 teams of 10, which allowed for a round robin event. We had some server problems as a result of misconfiguration, however things went smoothly there after.

BF2 and UT2k4 will start at different times next event.

Network
Some problems with slowness reported in transfering files. I personally didnt experience this and it didnt seem to effect game play at all.

Power
No issues. Thanks betty.

Internet
Due to hardware failure we were unable to bring up the internet link. We spent quite a lot of time trying but gave up. This did annoy some people, sadly internet connection is not part of the 'product' we offer. For this reason it is just a perk. We would encourage people to arrange their own internet connections (through chilli or unwired or something) if they so desire.

We have ordered a new cable (although it wasnt the cable that was the problem) which will solve some potential problems

Rubbish
We still have some problems with people not putting rubbish away, however i was pleased that people heeded my plees to dispose of pizza boxes into the dumpster.

Game Servers
No dramas that i was aware of. Thanks wolfman.
