Finnys Write Up
Well I would have to say it was a successful lan, when the power was on... which we will have to fix, but towards the end of the day when the power was staying on, everything was running pretty good. POWER:- Well we screwed up our distributer box, which is going in for service, and prolly another upgrade while it is in, looking into splitting it up into more segments so less people are effected if an earh leakage occurs. But alas the power problems were a mojor problem at lanarama, and we are very annoyed to say the least.
NETWORK:-
Thanks to NetGear, once again we had a lightning fast network, giving every lanner a 10/100 switched port. The switches were Netgears new stackable 24 ports, giving it a 4gig backbone, but either we didn't plug it in correclty or they couldn't handle the load we were placing them under, as there was alot of lag when using them, so we went back to our tradtional method of uplinking each 24port switch to a central 8port switch.
INTRALAN:-
More Coding efforts by myself and zort, have continued the development of intralan along even further. The jukebox went all day, but only speakers for the second half of the day, due to the halls pa system not working. Rego was all done via my new visual basic part for it, which made rego alot easier for us, and helped us get an accurate number for how many people turned up, making sure everyone paid.
ATMOSPHERE:-
as always it was a very friendly, socialising event, which is what we aim for in a lan, this I beleive kept us going through the power problems that arouse throughtout the event. The mirror ball also added to livening up the old building a bit.
SERVERS:-
Thankyou to everybody who brought in servers... and to Nepean Micro Computers for once again providing us with a few beasts of servers. Thanks espicially to panther for setting up the aq2 server, spending majority of his time setting this up for us.
PROJECTOR:-
This once again was used to great success, which was easier for everyone to see with the sheet from the roof of the stafe and I enjoyed playing with it for the majority of the day. The futurama episodes and the music videos towards the end of the day, are things to come in the futura for what you can do with intralan. Well the music videos anyway. Thanks to Penrith City Library for lending this to us for the day.
CONCLUSION:-
Overall it was an average LAN for us, but a bit of different one for me, when my girl rocked up, bringing some good looks along with her =) Putting power issues aside everything ran smoothly, but alas, without power you can't do much on a computer.
We will run our next lan smaller, sometime in the future, and get the power issues sorted out, and then run another bigger lan, and try and break our attendance record once again, while keeping the power up all day =)
Thankyou to everyone that helped us out throughout the day, in setting up in the morning, and in cleaning up at the end, your help is greatly apreciated, and without that help, we just wouldn't be motivated to run the lans for you at all. Hope to see you all soon at our next event, for which will announce in the near future.
