Fudds Rundown

LANzac day was a big step forward for BONG. We did a lot of things that we didn't plan to or ever done before as far as organising. Since this was our first LAN over night at this number of people there were issues such as sleeping quarters, food, belongings etc.

Sleeping was organised but most people didn't know which rooms to sleep in, this will be remedied next LAN. Food was not my department but is was a factor over the overnight ness it also tied in with sleeping, we will have a proper cloakroom set out next LAN.

A TV was also set up with aerial set up as well, this enabled us towatch buffy and was worth all the effort! Also next LAN if we can get our hands on a projector we can display DVD's in he hall and run the sound off the jukebox. We can have a featured film sesh. Also big thanks to Caffeine who is the DVD king! Although we didn't see any it's the thought that counts.

The crazy log in procedure I documented in the news will not be done ever again. That is too whacko, some 4 foot derro hoes ripped most of the signs down and the procedure of me standing outside with the log in desk you rock up, then I tag you with some ID then you go and get your gear will probably be repeated, this worked really well and thanks to all those people to turned up on time. Even poor Evangelion who rocked up first but when he went to maccas to call his friends they went inside.

I hope everyone found the toilets, next time I'll stick up neon lights. You think I'm Joking don't you? And for your enjoyment I'll asked DDSD for some Ralph centrefolds from past issues to stick on the door. Apparently I was told after the LAN that the toilets smelled putrid. I wouldn't know I went to the girls Staff toilets. But one small note on that, its 3 days long which means you'll have to use it again sometime, especially with all that jolt in your system, so think of others and flush.

Another hiccup was the smokers outside; the floor outside was full of butts. We are really sorry we should have put a bin out there, there will be some next time.

Everyone's behaviour was excellent, even the nameless one. I think I even saw a smile. My hat goes off the dudes in black in the corner who started their own little disco I wish I was awake to enjoy it. Apart from a surprise check from the principal, someone's table [after 3 days] collapsed [no damage done] and a defaulted aq2 tourney I think everyone was incredibly pleased with the LAN and how far bong has progressed. My only worry is can we keep that on a monthly basis : ). And still kick arse in the HSC. Oh and Rowie forgot to bring his chick friend. I think the comments on the mailing list about Dangermoose bringing his must have scared her off.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN FUTURE:
Rego - will be even more user friendly and we will have cool tagging style instead of average white tag on shirt deal.
TV - A fully running, all channels TV if we can get the English room keys again shhhh!
Movie Projections - A featured film we'll get the titles out to you on the day, possibly in the common room or perhaps in the hall itself.
Cloak Room - Yes stick everything in your bag and put your bag in here, sleeping bags etc just stick it outside the sleeping areas so you can see it and walk in and crash.

My views are a bit biased because I haven't been to all that many LANs this size. There turn out was much bigger than I expected would show. I think they got around 80. Some members of the staff where worried they would have to turn people away. Instead they just raided the school for more tables :)

The set-up of tables worked really well. They had a jukebox where you would log on trough your browser and request songs. That was a great idea! The networked was very fast (when I was in the aq2 server alone I had a ping of 7!! and when other's where in the server I don't think it went over 30) so all the games and the ftp had great connections. the staff where extremely helpful (I had some crazy network problems and the guys pulled them selves away from the gaming and ran to my help) real nice and funny (I seem to be known as broken arm boy because of previous bong when yes, I had a broken arm. Dan seemed to have the name gay Dan, I didn't ask why :)

It was held at a school so we had the comps set up in the big hall, some comfy lounge rooms for eating or just sitting and chatting with friends, a few rooms for sleeping (or you could take a hallway like many did :) with comfy carpet. great location eg. Mac-shit and Red Rooster just across the road and a good food-shopping joint. All those worried about getting beaten up or robed by homeys didn't have to fear, they had security :). Must not forget the great food and last but not lease, the large clump of cigarettes on the ground at the main entrance :)

So basically bong = big numbers in players, good times had by all, fast connection's, extremely helpful staff, great variety of games to play and tournaments, great set-up (lanning room, sleeping room and eating room), nice people."
