the event on saturday went about as close to perfect as we could ever want. thats the sort of event i love to put on for you all! no problems, just about every spot taken, successfull tournaments. i didnt say anything on the day for fear of jinxing things but i was really really happy.
we got in a little late in the morning but still finished setting up by around 930 which left us with a little chill time before we opened the doors at 10. with a rush we nearly half filled on just the people waiting in the car park! and over the next hour we hit over 60, by the end of the day we had our final count of some 73 people attending. which is 10 more than last event and makes the fourth consecutive event which has been 10 more than the last - its a little spookey. but controlled growth is what i like to see more than exponential growth and major problems.
we started ut2k4 late as people seemed to be steadily coming in, and we did procrastinate announcing the results somewhat for no reason other than i just wanted a break ! i think bf2 also went really with with 8 teams single elimination. we look forward to increasing the size of teams next time and having a much more interesting tournament. im very pleased that most people were just as interested in playing as they were in who was on their teams - so thanks for being happy to suffle around and make teams so the most people could play! big thanks to corsair for prizes for this competition.
from a technical stand point we had very little problems. one minor power outage, some network glitches early on which i personally didnt experience and seemed to go away quickly, internet was up and going strong all day. no game server problems other than our own silly config stuff ups.
thats really all there is to say. everyone seemed to get along and enjoy the gaming. alas there was more counterstrike than i ever want to see ever again. i didnt see many people staring at copying dialogs or dc++ windows which tells me people are embracing the gaming side of things more and more.
also i some people learnt the hard way that if you rock up for a half day to a full event, you cant expect to sit together and no we arent going to set up new tables or ask people to move ! get in early and get your crew good seating.
im looking forward to next event with larger bf2 teams (10 on 10) and a heavily revised ut2k4 tournament (qualifiers and double elimination 1 on 1 'playoffs'). we should easily fill the 80 spots available for the next event.
