Game Servers for BONG - Rebooted
Hi,
I'm currently setting up two gaming servers for the next BONG LAN (You may have seen it mentioned on the Bong Web Site). For those who are interested these servers will comprise of the following configuration:-
Tyan Tiger MPX Mother Board
2 x AMD Athlon MP 2000+ CPU's
1GB of Registered RAM
1 x Dual 10/100/1000MB Intel Network Card (Plus on board 10/100MB) 80GB IDE 7200RPM HDD RedHat Linux Version 9
Both are pretty much identical, with the exception of a few components, which are not worth mentioning.
OK, with that out of the way. Here are the games that I will be hosting on these servers. These main games, are the ones that I'm familiar with and that I can test (To test the server, and make sure all runs smoothly for the LAN).
Quake 3 Arena with it's various flavours.-
Q3A Deathmatch, Team Arena, PK Arena, Head Hunters 3, Rocket Arena, etc.
UT1 - With it's Deathmatch, Teamdeathmatch and the Latest version of Strike Force (Version 1.81 if I remember correctly).
UT2K3 - Deathmatch etc. I will set this game up so that when anyone logs in, they will be able to vote for the map and game type they like to play. (Easier for me then to set up different configs). It will be using the UT2K3 TMM 2003 V2.1. (With UT2K3, I can also host a competition server if anyone is interested.)
I will try to also setup an FTP server with all of the files on it, so that if people don't have the map or mod, you can just download it. Instead of waiting to download it via the game. (Still looking into the proper way to install the FTP server, but I should have it configured in time.I hope :-))
Also, there are other games which people may like to play. I can get hold of (Or already have the software here to setup these games) the following games and set them up if required:-
Quake 2
Half-Life
Counter Strike
Soldier of Fortune
Descent 3
Never Winter Nights
Day Of Defeat
Battlefield 1942
Enemy Territory V1.0 Demo
Return to Castle Wolfenstein (I may/will configure one for this game
too)
The games listed above, (With the exception of RTCW) I will need some help to configure. If anyone has already done these type of game servers, you may be able to help. If it was done with Windows, the configuration for Linux won't be much different. So some small changes to the configs and batch files will/should get them running on Linux.
I'm going to setup the game software on both servers equally, so if it's needed I can run say, Q3A on both servers if there is the demand for it, etc.
Cheers,
Wolf
