Gear Rental

This is a just a brief post for anyone interesting in renting power gear for their own largish lan party or for any other application requiring power.

Ol' Betty (Power Distribution Box)

- Dual Three Phase Input
- 6x10 amp circuits and 1x20amp circuit per phase.
- Self Contained, wheeled unit.
- Clipsal 3 phase plugs

This unit started out with a single 32 amp, 3phase input custom built for us by Hook-Up Electrical. It has since been upgraded and reworked by Lakeview Construction Services (http://www.lakeviewcontracting.com.au) to accomidate a second three phase input, giving Ol'Betty twice her initial capacity. At full capacity, Ol'Betty should easily be able to run 80-100 computer per 3 phase - assuming each computer uses ~1amp (ie 3x32amps).

Power boards and power leads

We have an assortment of Heavy Duty power leads and a large collection of 6 outlet boards. Usually we run one power lead per circuit, with a double adapter and 2x6 outlet powerboards attached.

All power gear would also be suitable for use in other applications such as powering an Expo or Conference. which would likely require more power than many halls or function centres could otherwise provide via wall circuits. Rather than searching for wiring diagrams so you can try and divide power up (hoping that the circuits can actually take 10 amps!), Ol'betty would guarentee the quality and capacity of circuits for stalls. Overloads and trips would also be resolved much faster, as the ciruit breakers and centralised and accessable.

Costs - Power Gear

$100 + $200 deposit
Ol' betty, plus 8 power leads, 8 double adapters and 16x6 point powerboards. *

$150 + $200 deposit
Ol' betty, plus 16 power loads, 16 double adapters and 32x6 point powerboards. *

* One weekend (earliest pickup wednesday, latest drop off wednesday).
Renting party must arrange pick up and drop off. All gear is guarenteed working, repairs will be taken from the deposit. Some one 18+, with a drivers license or other id is needed to sign the rental agreement. Please contact us for longer rental periods.

Cost - Data Gear

We have 8 large looms/conduits/bundles of cat5 cabling which we use to connect our guests computers to our data centre. These are also available for rental. All have 18 leads and are wired straight through and vary in length from 15 to 25 metres. They are an ideal solution for keeping expensive networking gear out of harms way (especially if you are borrowing the switches!).
