Buddy LANs for Summer 06-07

Hopefully everyone is on holidays by now (unless you are at tafe or high school bwahahaha) and finding out just how fun life is when all you have to do is game online!... *tumble weed* (yeah, actually its not that great, its boring really fast... )

Fortunately Fragfest has a LAN in January to help break the monotony of capped downloads and underpopulated servers. But thats only 1 saturday of three whole months of LANable Summer!!

So heres my sticky thread of encouragement to all those budding lanners who want to throw their own little party!

4-5 people is really not that hard. If you have an adsl or ip router you most likly have a few ethernet ports spare - enough for said 4 or 5 people, and power is not an issue. Plug your friends straight in and most likley it will 'just work'. If you want a few more friends, then plug an 8 port switch ($80 or less) on to your home network, to add more ports of 'just work'ing home network. Get your friends to bring a network cable & power board, then you will have all the gear you need!

You dont need to worry about dedicated servers, well set up dhcp servers, power, firewalls blah blah blah. All those things that you dont actually notice untill you run a lan Your home network set up is most likley ready for some rocking games!

Not only that, but buddy LANs allow for more 'shenanigans' that are not really appropriate at a public event.

So why not pick a weekend and ask around?

The forums are a great way to get people involved as well as get some advice. We can also loan you out some of the gear that you may need to get it going.
