Day Before Updates

well LAN 101 is tomorrow. we dont have anywhere near as many people as we would like, but we still have a what looks to be a good turn out. But having said that if you have any friends sitting on the fence... get them to sign up now! (rego closes 6pm tonight, and we extended confirmation till 7pm tonight... yeah ok not that exciting)

we have confirmed an internet connection. it is a wireless 1500k link (150kb/s approx), which when we were testing last night was even less laggy than adsl.

HOWEVER....

please note that the product (eg the lan) has not changed. internet access is an optional bonus we have arranged at the last minute. if the internet connection drops out or is abused and we disconnect it, we wont refund anyone. your not paying to use the net but rather, to be at the lan. internet access will be restricted and download speeds capped!!

restricted ie. pretty much all youll have is a http proxy. which will allow you to browse, do some downloads, use msn and/or icq (yes they do go through http proxies).

we would also ask that you *dont* download game patches straight off the net. please contact an admin so we can download and mirror it. anyone with basic math skills will work out that downloading a 30 meg file once at 150k/s then redistributing it at 100mbps goes alot faster for everyone. youll get the file faster as well download it uncapped - and youll then have more time to game.

anyway just want to touch on that as it is a point of contraversy.

we will be running ut24k, battlefield * and ut tournaments begining at around 11am so if your interested be prompt and make sure everything is working and updated.

PLEASE RUN WINDOWS UPDATE BEFORE ATTENDING AKA TONIGHT. see also the recommended OS list. make sure your computer is set to recieve an IP address and all other IP configuration options via DHCP _BEFORE_ plugging into the network.

please note also that you will not need any network gear other than a working network card of some description. you will get one power point per person. so please plug into the 'root' i guess you could call it, power board. speakers are not allowed. people with high quality studio headphones get more chicks/guys.... ok no promises.

well enough of the rules, and one with what you can do!!

general softdrinks will be for sale on the day at the usual $1 each or 6 for $5, dedicated servers for ut, ut2k (various modes), q3a, mta (vc), battlefield * and aq2 will all be running through out the day and well be happy to put more up if requested!.

if you want to bring your own server now is the time to contact us. also if you want to use your laptop in addition to your main pc contact us now for an extra ethernet lead or wireless access. (+$5)

REMEMBER THAT ITS ONE PERSON PER PC (or one person per pc + laptop extra $5)

event starts 10am goes till 10pm, dont bother turning up before 10am youll just sit in your car ;)
